"Think Big, Dream Big, Build Big"
What is the TEACH FLEET?
TEACH FLEET is an acronym for Technology's Effects and Contributions Highlighted for Learning Ecological Environmental Topics. It contains the world's largest, most comprehensive, and most diverse collection of nearly 200 LEGO ships from tugboats to super tankers.
The TEACH FLEET collection has all types of modern ships, but each one has a different purpose representing every area of STEM.
The LEGO ship models range in size from 2 feet to 6 feet long and can be used as teaching aids to introduce students to STEM, history, and diversity.
Each ships is named for a female or minority inventor, scientist, physician, engineer, mathmetician, military officer, or explorer.
The ships are displayed with placards featuring a portrait and biography of its namesake.
We've visited public and private schools, colleges, universities, maritime museums, science museums, children's museums, festivals, fairs, and LEGO events.
The ships of the fleet can be divided into eight STEM discussion topics or themes:
Oceanographic and atmospheric research
Ports, waterways, and development
Environmental impact of global trade
Drinking water, waste water and pollution
Aquaculture, agriculture and fisheries
Oil and gas exploration and transportation
Fossil fuels and climate change
Sustainable lifestyles and conservation
Naval (Defense and Homeland Security)
The ships of the fleet can be divided into three broad STEM categories:
Environmental & marine science
Marine & civil engineering
Marine & energy technologies
The ships of the fleet can be divided into six diversity categories:
The ships of the fleet can be divided into six geographic regions:
Pacific Northwest (Puget Sound and Vancouver Island)
Alaska and Arctic Regions
Inland Waterways (Mississippi and Ohio Rivers)
Gulf Coast and Offshore
Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway
Atlantic Coast (Chesapeake Bay and Delaware River)
